The Huayuan lead-zinc deposit hosted in the Lower Cambrian Qingxudong Formation is among the biggest Pb-Zn deposits in China, and one of the world-class super-large ore deposits with more than ten million tons of lead and zinc resource reserves. In this study,Sr isotope compositions of limestone in the Qingxudong Formation and hydrothermal minerals were analyzed in order to understand the source of the ore metals. The results show that 87Sr/86 Sr values of limestone in the Qingxudong Formation are in the range of 0.70886-0.70921,consistent with estimated sea water values in the early Cambrian.87Sr/86 Sr values of hydrothermal calcite are 0.70906-0.71022,and those of sphalerite are 0.70915-0.71114 with(87Sr/86Sr)of 0.70912-0.70940,higher than the strontium isotope ratios of the Qingxudong limestone. We infer that the ore-forming fluids probably migrated through the underlying siliciclastic rocks of the Shipai and Niutitang formations, and experienced water-rock reaction and isotope exchange with these siliciclastic rocks which have higher 87Sr/86 S ratios.
