GEOCHEMISTRY AND ORE POTENTIAL OF THE GUFENG FORMATION,ENSHI,WESTERN HUBEI PROVINCE

LI Peng;HU Zheng-xiang;ZONG Wei;ZHOU Feng;DU Xiao-feng;WU Long;Hubei Geological Survey;
The Middle Permian Gufeng Formation in western Hubei typically consists of thin-bedded siliceous rocks,carbonaceous-siliceous rocks,and carbonaceous shales.On the basis of petrologic and geochemical data,we conclude that the siliceous rocks were deposited in the middle-low part of continental margin and deep basin.The deposition of the Gufeng Formation was influenced by both biological and hydrothermal activities,with increasing hydrothermal influence in the upper Gufeng Formation leading to effective mineralization.Based on our analysis,carbonaceous shales in the middle and upper Gufeng Formation have the highest potential for mineralization and should be the main prospecting target in this area.
