Professional Practice Environment and Turnover Intention among Contracted Nurses of Yunnan Province

Objective To explore the level of professional practice environment(PPE) and turnover intention(TI),and to examine the relationship between them among contracted nurses in six general university hospitals,Yunnan Province.Method 386 contracted nurses were selected from Medical and Surgical departments,Emergency Rooms,Operating Rooms and ICUs in six university hospitals of Yunnan Province by proportional stratified random sampling.The instruments included the Demographic Data Form,the Revised Professional Practice Environment(RPPE) Scale,and the Turnover Intention Questionnaire(TIQ).Spearman's rank-order correlation analysis was used to test relationships between PPE and TI.Results The level of professional practice environment and turnover intention as perceived by contracted nurses was at moderate level;and there was a negative statistically significant correlation between them.Conclusion Nursing administrators should develop strategies to improve nurses' professional practice environment and minimize nurse turnover intention in general university hospitals.
