Analysis on the risk factors for recurrence of acute transverse myelitis

Objective This study sought to identify factors that increased the risk of recurrence following an initial acute transverse myelitis(ATM) presentation.Methods Retrospective cohort study of inpatients initially presenting with ATM of unknown etiology in the Nanchong central hospital between January 2009 and January 2014.According to whether they had a relapse after an initial ATM presentation the patients were divided into the acute transvers myelitis group and the recurrent transverse myelitis group.The related risk factors were analyzed.Results Compared with ATM group,female sex,pleocytosis,brain MRI lesions in rATM group were significantly increased.Multivariate Logistic analysis showed that brain MRI lesions were independent risk factors forATM to raplse.Conclusion ATM remained a monophasic event in the most of patients,Brain MRI lesions were independent risk factors forATM to raplse.
