LIQUEFACTION PREDICTION BASED ON q_c AND D_(50)

A review of field liquefaction behavior during earthquakes has been made with emphasis on the cone penetration test(CPT)qc-values and the grain size of the soils. From that,several practical methods to evaluate the liquefaction potential have been developed. In view of the field data of soil liquefaction during recent earthquakes especially the field data of silt in Tianjing during Tangshan earthquake we have developed a liquefaction assessment method using CPT and D50. The critical nomalized cone resistance (qnc)cr,is defined as a function both of the cyclic stress ratio and the mean size of soil. The liquefaction prediction method presented here has been proved very useful for the present time.
