Study on design method of energy dissipation braced frame structures

In this paper a new design method of the energy dissipation braced frame structures has been presented. which can realize the target displacement control of the structures under the severe earthquakes. The main idea of the design method is that the enery dissipation brace system is determined by the optimization under the given story drift angle limitation and the given severe earthquakes, while the basic frame structure is designed without considering the requirements of earthquake resistance. A 15-story structure was used as an example to demonstrate the new design method. The design result is compared with that obtained by the ordinary design method.
