Characteristics of RPC-filled steel tubular puncheons with ultra high performance subjected to axial compressive loading

Experimental investigation for characteristics of RPC-filled steel tubular columns with ultra high performance subjected to axial compressive loading are performed in this paper.Based on the analysis of the characteristic differences among the RPC,normal concrete and high strength concrete,the deformation mechanism and the failure modes of the RPC-filled steel tubular columns are discussed.Through processing and analysis of test results in the experimental investigation and literatures,the empirical formulas for estimating the load carrying capacity of the RPC-filled steel tubular columns are statistically worked out and compared with those in current design criteria.It is shown that the current design criteria for concrete-filled steel tubular columns are not suitable for the RPC-filled steel tubular columns.
