This paper is to review the present-status of application of seismic base isolation in nuclear power plant(NPP),discuss the related issues of applicability of this technology to NNP structures characterized by the particular importance, special sensitivity and very complicated configuration, and look into the prospect of NPP provided with the seismic base isolation. It is pointed out that the base isolation is a mature technology that can benefit the NPP in resisting the potential severe earthquake and facilitating the standardization of NPP design and construction,as well as reducing the initial and life-cycle cost.It is also emphasized that there are still a number of bottle-neck problems in base-isolation to be solved to receive the acceptance from the NPP industry and regulatory for deployment in the NPPs.
