Research progress in new replaceable coupling beams

Coupled shear wall structures are often employed as efficient lateral-force-resisting-systems in tall buildings,and the coupling beams are often used as important members to dissipate the seismic energy.However,after the traditional RC coupling beams,steel coupling beams or steel-concrete composite coupling beams damaged in the earthquakes are difficult and cost to berepaired or replaceed.In recent years,some scholars began to study the replaceable coupling beam,which is easy and cheap to be replaced afler earthquake event.In this study,firstly the definition and classification of replaceable coupling beam are proposed,and then a special and detailed summary on replaceable coupling beam is introduced,especially for related research results shown at 15 WCEE in September 2012.Finally,the prospect of research on replaceable coupling beams is assessed.
