Experimental study and performance analysis of a novel mild steel damping wall

This paper presents a new shear-type mild steel damping wall,which is developed and designed at full-scale.In order to investigate the performance of the new shear-type metal damper,both basic performance test and fatigue test of the damping wall are carried out based on the given loading condition program in this paper.The constitutive model for the new damping wall is obtained from the experiment study.Experimental results indicate that the new mild damping wall possesses stable and effective energy dissipation capacity and excellent fatigue performance.A refined finite element model of the new mild damping wall is developed within environment of ABAQUS and the numerical simulation of the wall is then conducted in this paper.The numerical results match very well with the experimental data.The new mild steel damping wall is effective and convenient in construction,which may have a wide application prospect in the near future.
