Experimental study of the seismic behavior of frame structure with exterior sandwich cladding walls

In order to investigate the influence of exterior sandwich cladding walls on the seismic behavior of the frame structure,two full-scale frames with and without exterior sandwich cladding walls are tested under cyclic loading. The stiffness,load-bearing capacity,ductility and energy-consuming capacity of the two test specimens are comprehensively evaluated based on the results of reversed cyclic loading tests. Satisfactory seismic behavior of the frame structure with exterior sandwich cladding walls is verified by the test results. The stiffness of the structure increased 25%,the yield load increased 19% after considering the exterior sandwich cladding walls. The connections between exterior sandwich cladding walls and beam connections have no noticeable phenomenon of failure and the exterior sandwich cladding walls remain intact when the inter storey displace angle reaches 1 /16,indicating that the connection details of the exterior sandwich cladding walls can meet the design requirement under rare earthquake.
