Pseudo-static tests of a new type of self-centering confined masonry wall with external friction dampers

A new type of self-centering confined masonry wall with internal unbonded prestressed tendons and external friction dampers is developed in this paper. The pseudo-static tests of the self-centering wall under cyclic loading were performed to investigate its hysteresis behavior. It is indicated that the hysteresis curve of the self-centering wall is characterized by flag shape. The wall exhibits no obvious damage under large displacement and experiences no significant strength and stiffness degradation during the reloading and unloading process. With the increase of the initial prestress in the tendons,the self-centering performance of the wall is enhanced but its energy dissipation capacity is impaired. With the increase of the friction force of the friction dampers,the energy dissipation capacity of the wall is improved but some residual displacement likely occurs.
