A mode superposition method based on equivalent complex damping

Based on the duality principle,frequency dependent viscous damping is the expression form of complex damping in real number field. It is an equivalent complex damping. Its energy consumption is independent of excitation frequency in every cycle. Earthquake dominant frequency is regard as excitation frequency. Combining with the short-time Fourier transform,mode superposition method of frequency dependant viscous damping of the single material structure is put forward. By the least square method,Caughey damping matrix can become the approximate frequency dependent viscous damping matrix. Mode superposition method of structures of multiple material damping characteristics is put forward. The above research results realize mode superposition of equivalent complex damping of single material structure and mixed material structure. Then they provide the theory basis for mode-superposition response spectrum method based on the complex damping theory.
