The Pulse Screening Effect of Cable

Lu Yinghua (Beijing Institute of Post and Telecomunication)
Recent years, people pay more and more attention to the interference and protection caused by lightening, nuclear electromagnetic pulse(NEMP), and other time domain sources. These electromagaetic pulses enter into the instruments mainly by way of cables connected with them. This paper studies the mechanics of the pulses entering the cables, defines the concepts of pulse screening effects, then, deduces the formulae for calculating the idea pulse screening effects, and, at last, using an example of coaxial cable, explains how to estimate the pulse screening effect of cables.
