Shunt Hybrid Filter for Harmonic Suppression and Reactive Power Compensation

For harmonic suppression and reactive power compensation of high power nonlinear load, methods of using shunt hybrid active power filter and parallel operation of hybrid filter with capacitors (or passive power filter) are proposed. The coordination of the different devices are analyzed and a harmonic current detection method using the combination of load current and the mains current is developed for improving the performance of harmonic compensation and the resonance problem. The calculation results with the proposed methods are reasonable agreement with the simulation data. Finally, results from an industry prototype are presented to verify the validity and effectiveness of hybrid filter.
