Test Methods for Hardware Electrolytic Corrosion of Porcelain and Glass Insulators on HVDC Transmission Lines

In recent years, lots of porcelain and glass insulators on several HVDC transmission lines appeared hardware corrosion phenomena in China. The spray water method,the salt fog method,the electrolytic method,and the solid dirt layer method are used to carry out the corrosion tests for iron caps and pins of the insulators in this paper. Also, the equivalence and feasibility of those test methods are compared and analyzed. The spray water method and the salt fog method are proposed to research the electrolytic corrosion problem of hardware based on the comparison between the test results and the field corrosion. The conductivity and flow velocity of the solution are 8 ~ 10 m S / cm(20℃) and 8 ~ 10 L / h respectively while carrying on iron cap corrosion test with spray water method. For pin corrosion,these parameters are set as 2 ~ 3 m S / cm(20℃) and2 ~ 3 L / h. The conductivity and flow velocity of the solution are 10 ~ 12 m S / cm(20℃) and 0. 25 ~ 0. 4 L / h per sprinkler for both iron cap and pin with salt fog method.
