Investigation and Analysis on Current Status of Education Informatization in Weak Areas in China

The 13th Five-Year Plan for Education Informatization proposes" expanding the coverage of high-quality education resources, giving priority to improving the capability of education informatization in promoting education fairness and quality". However, the digital divide and unbalanced development between eastern and western regions, between urban and rural areas still exist. This study has selected 40 suburban schools in weak areas from eastern and western regions as research subjects, covering Beijing,Xiamen, Chengdu, Yinchuan and Haidong. Through questionnaire, interviews, field observation and literature research, the learning environment construction and the status of information technology capacity of students and teachers have been investigated and analyzed. The results show that the main problems of the construction of education informatization in those areas are as follows: digital educational resources have not yet formed a normalized application mode; teachers are puzzled in the theory and method of integration of information technology and classroom teaching; students are less active and effective in processing, generating, and sharing information. Finally, suggestions are put forward correspondingly.
