Field Tests on Weathering Durability of Ancient Earthen Architecture Treated with PS in an Arid Area

Weathering is one of the most familiar and serious forms of deterioration in ancient earthen structures.As far as the weathering durability of ancient earthen structures is concerned,most previous researches focus more on laboratory tests than on field simulative tests.In order to find out the actual effect of PS material in enhancing the durability of ancient earthen structures,the test area was treated with PS material of 3%,5%,and 7%,and laboratory tests on the microstructure and temperature sensitivity as well as field tests on the temperature,wind erosion,and rain erosion have been carried out.The results indicate that the PS material can help change the character of the soil and improve the weathering-resistance of ancient earthen structures.
