Non-destructive Analysis of the Warring States Glass Beads Unearthed from Jingzhou, Hubei by pXRF and Discussions on Relative Issues

A high-performance portable energy-dispersive XRF spectrometer(pXRF) has been used to analyze the chemical components of 8 glass beads unearthed from the Xiongjiazhong Tombs and other tombs of the Warring States period in Jingzhou,Hubei Province.The contents of major,minor,and some trace elements including light elements of Na and Mg were quantitatively determined successfully with pXRF.It suggests that these glass samples could be divided into two types: PbO-BaO-SiO2and Na2O-CaO-SiO2 glasses.The transition metal ions such as Co2+,Cu2+,Fe3+and Fe2+ account for their different colors,and all the soda-lime glass samples contained certain antimony elements.Combined with the published research results,the possible provenances of these analyzed samples were briefly discussed.
