Analysis of the Pigments in the Kumutula Grotto Murals,Xinjiang,China

In order to identify the components of pigments used in the murals of the Kumtula Grottoes,Raman spectroscopy, light microscopy, and electron scanning microscopy have been used to analyze the chemicals contained in paint samples obtained from the site. The results showthat red pigments are mainly haematite and miniumite(red lead), the blue is lapis lazuli, the green is atacamite, the gold is gold foil, the white is gypsum, and the black are charcoal and lead dioxide.
