Middle Permian ammonoid fossils in the Coqên area,Tibet,and their geological significance

This paper discusses the stratigraphic division and correlation of the Middle Permian of ammonoid facies of the Coqên area,Tibet,based on the ammonoid Popanoceras bow-mani ,Paragastrioceras jossae(Verneuil)and Timorites curvicostatus Haniel found during the1:250000regional geological survey in the area.Paragastrioceras is one of the typical ele-ments in the marginal Gndwana biogeographic province and Timorites is one of the typical elements in the equatorial Tethyan biogeographic province.Their coexistence in Tibet con-firms that Tibet was situated in the equatorial Tethyan province bordering the marginal God-win province during the Middle Permian when the paleoclimate was warming.
