Numerical Investigation of the Flow Around an Elliptic Cylinder by Electromagnetic Force

The flow around an elliptic cylinder controlled by electromagnetic force is simulated numerically by the lattice Boltzmann method. The effect of electromagnetic force on the flow has been investigated. And the treatment of curved boundary and the evaluation of the boundary forces are analyzed. The streamlines are presented for the flow past an elliptic cylinder with various electromagnetic forces and the mechanism of changes is explained. Numerical results verify that the lattice Boltzmann method is simple and suitable to handle the case. Moreover,it confirms that the electromagnetic force can modify the boundary layer around an elliptic cylinder,prevent the boundary layer from separation,and suppress the shedding of vortices.
