A PRACTICAL FAULT LOCATION ALGORITHM FOR MULTI-TERMINAL TRANSMISSION LINES WITH RADIAL STRUCTURE

Generally. algorithms using one-terminal voltage and current data can not be used for locating the faults on multi-terminal lines. On the basis of modal analysis theory. this paper describes a new accurate fault location algorithm for mu1ti-terminal lines. The developed algorithm has the following features' The measurements taken at all ends are not required to besynchronized: The equations of fault location are solved noniterativeIy: The pre-fault conditions and the fault types are notrequired to be prepared: Theoretically, the technique is independent of the transient impedance, the source impedance, andthe coupling of the line itself: Both series impedance and shunt admittance effects are modeled. A large number of transientsimulation tests show that the algorithm described in the paper is feasible.
