COORDINATED CONTROL OF STATCOM AND GENERATOR EXCITATION

A unified state- space system model is established for a single- m achine infinite- bus power system with STATCOM. Based on the theory and algorithm of inform ation- structure- constrained linear quadratic L Q optim al control,four coordinated control strategies are obtained.They are state- feedback decentralized coordinated control,output- feedback decentralized coordinated control,L Q coordinated control constrained by a given inform ation structure where generator's angular frequency deviation can be used in controlling STATCOM,and a centralized full- scale state- feedback coordinated control. Simulation results show that the four controllers are superior to the separately designed AVR/ PSS excitation controller and PI STATCOM voltage regulator in enhancing system transient and steady- state perform ance. At the same tim e,the decentralized state and output- feedback coordinated control schem es,though inferior to the other two coordinated control schem es,are more applicable because of their low cost and high reliability.
