A Novel Dynamic AC Voltage Regulator Based on Super-capacitor Storage

A novel single-phase dynamic AC voltage regulator is proposed. The regulator employs the double half-bridge-converter circuits to perform series voltage compensation and DC energy regulation respectively. Moreover, the implementation of super-capacitor banks at common DC side ensures the energy for compensating voltage sags and severe drops, and efficiently reduces the actions of storage regulating converter as well. According to different patterns of energy balance, the multi-mode operation principles, series voltage compensation strategies and energy storage control rules for the regulator are investigated. Experimental results obtained from a 5 kVA prototype indicate that it has good performances in dynamic voltage restore and voltage harmonic suppression.
