Experiment and analysis of long span repeaterless optical-fiber transmission systems

Repeaterless systems are those that have not any kinds of optical and electrical repeaters along the fiber transmission links.Based on three typical long-span repeaterless systems under different channel bit-rate (2.5 Gbit/s,10 Gbit/s and 40 Gbit/s),the physical limitation factors and the corresponding key technologies are analyzed for realizing high-capacity and long-span repeaterless transmission.A Raman-amplified transmission experiment shows the potential merit of bidirectional pumping scheme for repeaterless transmission.
