SELECTIVE MODAL ANALYSIS FOR RDDE STABILITY EVALUATION WITH APPLICATION TO POWER SYSTEMS

A sclective modal analysis method for stability evaluation of a class of linear Retasdcd Differential-difference Equations (RDDE) is proposed in the paper. The main idea of the method is to introducc a continuous pasameter in the characteristic matsix of the RDDE. When s equals 0, the RDDE is degenerated into an ordinary differential equation (ODE). The eigenvalues of the ODE are cal- culated and the interested dominant eigenvalues are selected. For each value of the pasameter, the corre- sponding approximate dominant eigenvalues are calculated by the eigenvalue sensitivities with respect to the parameter, and their exact values are then obtained by the Newton iteration method. The pasameter is increased step by step untill S equals 1 to get the dominant cigenvalues of the original RDDE. The method has been used in the paper for analysing the stability of the AC/DC Power system with taking consideration of the time lags caused by DC conterllers and the distributed parametess of DC linc. The results of a test system not only show the effectiveness of the presented method but also indicate the impact of the time lags on Power System stability.
