In February 2014, Anhui Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology carried out a rescue excavation on the Qugou cemetery located in Huaibei, Anhui province and cleared a total of 85 tombs. Among these tombs, M50 is a joint burial of a husband and his two wives and is one of the largest containing enormous funeral replicas and ritual wares. It is a single chambered brick tomb attached with a passage. According to its structure and form and the unearthed objects, it is believed that M50 dates to the early period of the Eastern Han. The excavation of M50 provides important data for the study of the burial customs of this area, and even of the entire Jiang-Huai region, in the Han Dynasty.
