THE TAXONOMY AND DISTRIBUTION ON SEVERAL POISONOUS PLANTS OF Quercus Linn. AND THEIR POISONING TO THE LIVESTOCK

The present paper is mainly to discuss the taxonomy and distributionof poisonous planta of Quercus Linn. and their poisoning to the livestock. There are 350 species of the genus Quercus Linn. have been recorded inthe whole world and about 140 species from China. The distribution centreof the Quercus plants is in Asia, as well as in the north temperate zoneand tropical mountains. According to our preliminary studies, there are only 8 species poisoningto the livestock in China. Since 1958, the livestocks eaten tender leavesof the poisonous plants which had been induced poisoning or death in Guic-how, Henan, Shaanxi, Sichuan, Hubei, Shandong, Inner Mongolia and Shanxiprovinces. The animal-husbundry of vast mountains have suffered heavy los-ses by the above facts.
