Study of the vigor of trace pollens in CMS of Brassica napus L. and their niflulence on the purity of hybrid

A comparison is conducted between the trace pollens and normal pollens in the same and different pistils.The results show that the trace pollens in CMS can pollinate and get pods,but they have low vigor,slow germination,short duration,low pollination and pod bearing capability,as well as have lower competence than that of normal pollens.When pollinated with pollens of restoring line after 3~72 hours of pollination with trace pollens,the pod bearing rate can reach or exceed the level of pollination with the pollens of restoring alone,and the highest rate is 9.57%.Same process is done after 0~48 hour of pollination with trace pollens,70.35%~91% hybrid seeds can be attained.These show that the trace pollens have less influence on the purity of hybrid seed,and that repeated pollination with pollens of restoring line can improve the purity and yield of hybrid seed.Meanwhile,the pistil of CMS Shaan 2A is not only more sensitive to pollens and more compatible to heterologous pollens than conventional rapeseed 9770,but also has faster pollen generation and better pod bearing rate.
