Research on GEPON Technology

XU Li-ping(Changzhou LIU Guo-jun Higher Vocational and Technical Colleges,Changzhou 213004,China)  
GEPON is a technology using Passive Optical units to realize the one point to multi point's transmission.In the upstream direction,multiple optical network units share the same transmission channel by using TDMA,and in the downstream direction,the optical line terminal broadcasts it's packets to all optical network units.It can provide a bandwidth of 1.25 Gbit/s.GEPON has the characters as low cost,broad bandwidth,used and updated easily,simple maintenance and highly security,and is the core technology of the implement of VoIP、Video meeting、VOD.The Basic principle of GEPON is discussed,and the characters of GEPON are introduced based on the comparative research of GEPON and other network access technologies.The utilization and prospects of GEPON in the future is also analyzed.
