EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON REACTIVE CHEMISTRY OF CYANAMIDE IN HIGH TEMPERATURE AND PRESSURE AQUEOUS FLUIDS

Experimental results on reactive chemistry of cyanamide in hydrothermal, especiallyin supereritical water indicate that cyanamide can be converted into aqueous NH_3 andCO_2, either through direct hydrolysis or through polymerization. In the second case,cyanamide firstly polymerizes into a mixture of higher molecular weight cyclic azinesbefore ultimately hydrolysis. Experimental results also demonstrate that supercriticalwater can efficiently destroy organic wastes which contain hazardous or toxic materialsand can transform them into nonpoisonous innocent H_2O, NH_2, CO_2, and inorganicsalts etc. Based on the experimental results, it is proposed that the prossiblemechanism of hydrolysis reaction is nucleophilic addition of water.
