Organic matters from Middle Permian source rocks of northern Xinjiang and their relationships with sedime ntary environments

A systematic analysis of the element geochemistry and organic geochemis try of the Middle Permian source rocks comprising carbonate rocks an d mudstones has been carried on,with the samples both from the outcrop and bore of the Junggar,Turpan-Hami and Ili basins of northern Xinjiang.Relative enrichment in light rare earth elements,but poorness of heavy ones,as well as distinctively positive a nomaly in Ce /Ce  indicate a reducing environment as a whole during the dep osition of source rocks.It has been c onfirmed that sedimentary paramete rs,such as element geochemistry and paleosalinity of the water body,have a c lose relationship with organic facies of the source rocks.It is also disclosed th at phytane predominance of the sourc e rocks mainly come from a reducing environment.The detected biomarkers,such as gammacerane andβ-carotane in our samples reflect a sp ecial salinity of the sedimentary environ ments.Sedimentary zones with stron g reducing nature are better positio ns for deposition of primary organic matte rs,where they will be buried and preserved contemporarily,and consequently,the source rocks are generally high i n organic content and better in organ ic types,vice versa.
