Experimental studies on effects of several salt ions on Raman spectra of water

Several common salt solutions in fluid inclusions were analyzed by Raman spectroscopy. Skewing parameter was introduced to describe Raman spectroscopy distortion of water molecule stretching variation. The relationships between skewing parameter and salinities are also established. The results show that the skewing parameter and distortion of water molecule variation increase with increasing salinity adding to the solutions. The slopes of the skewing parameter curves display that the salt effects on Raman spectra of water stretching variation can be ranked in the following sequence: NaCl Na2SO4 NaHCO3 Na2CO3. Effects of some cations and anions on Raman spectra of water are analyzed and discussed. The results indicate that cations with high chemical valence have more remarkable effects on the stretching band of water than those with low valence,and effects of anions are in the following sequence:Cl-≈SO42-HCO3-CO32-≈NO3-.
