Review on the progress of lunar gravity field research and its applications

XU Ya and HAO Tian-yao(Institute of Geology and Geophysics,Chinese Academy of Sciences,Beijing 100029,China)  
Lunar gravity field and related studies are important aspects of lunar scientific exploration. This paper reviewed main progress in lunar gravity field and topography modeling,and summarized main results of lunar gravity study,especially those related to the lunar crust and mascon structure. The study results about lunar mantle and core structure,isostasy state,composition and evolution based on lunar gravity field are also introduced here. With the launch of the Chang'e-1 satellite,the independent lunar gravity and topography model study has become one of the basic research objects in the near future,and the corresponding study about lunar crustal structure,isostasy,mascons and composition can also be carried out based on the new datasets. In addition,the ideas and methods from earth sciences can be used to promote the interior structure study of lunar and other planets.
