WATER EXPULSION DURING COMPACTION OF CLASTIC SEDIMENTS
Li Taiming Scientific Research Department
The decrease of porosity for clastic sediments with burial depth, whichreflects compaction as a geologic process, is resulted from combination oftwo reactions, i. e. compression of matrix volume and expulsion of pore water. These two physical reactions should be searched separately during the recon-struction of compaction process. Otherwise, the fluid flow occurred duringcompaction as an important source power for primary migration of hydrocar-bon, will be omitted artificially.
