Borehole effects of two-dimensional cross-borehole ERT

The purpose of this stus is to quantitatively analyze the effects caused by the boreholes' size and the backfilled materials in the boreholes to inversion of cross-borehole electrical resistivity tomography (ERT).Fist, based on the built geoelectrical baseline forward model,we select differently combined borehole sizes and backfill materials according to the typical situations in the field and set parameters to the geoelectrical model.Then we forwardly simulate each model to synthesis the two-dimensional cross-borehole electrical resistivity data,meanwhile calaulate each synthetic data model by the conventional two-dimensional inversion code.The calculated results indicate that there is a preferential current flow pathway and distribution of voltages distorted around the boreholes because of the presence of boreholes and backfilled materials during two-dimensional cross-boreholes electrical resistivity tomography (ERT).As a result,there exist some different degrees of borehole effects in the interpreted electrical resistivity images inversed by the conventional two dimensional code when ERT are performed between two boreholes,and the borehole effects is related to the borehole diameters size and the resistivity ratio of the backfilled material to the native formation,and the borehole effects would become prominent with the increasing borehole diameter and resistivity ratio.
