Resource potential analysis of natural gas hydrate in South China Sea

Gas hydrate is a kind of potential energy resource,and the resources are huge.South China Sea is the principal region where natural gas hydrates are distributed in China.This paper analyzes the influencing factors of forming gas hydrate,such as tectonic deposition,hydrocarbon source,temperature and pressure and some other factors,taking the Gulf of Mexico and Blake Ridge gas hydrate reservoirs for example.Then based on the influencing factors of forming hydrate,taking South China Sea tectonic evolution and petroleum geological conditions into account,this paper thinks that the structural and gas source condition in South China Sea are beneficial to the formation of natural gas hydrate.Meanwhile,this paper further regards Southwest Taiwan basin,Dongsha Islands,Xisha Trough – Qiong-dongnan basin and Beikang basin as the first-grade prospective area of gas hydrate and the Zhongjiannan basin and Wanan basin as subprime prospective area of gas hydrate in the South China Sea.According to the challenge for the exploration and research of the South China Sea natural gas hydrate,this paper puts forward some suggestions.
