GEOIDAL DEFORMATION RESULTING FROM THE SURFACE VERTICAL DISPLACEMENTS AND GRAVITY CHANGES

In the studies of geophysical normal problem and inverse problem concerning the surface vertical displacements, the real surface vertical equals the sum of apparent vertical displacement and geoidal height variation. In this paper, formulae determining the geoidal deformations by means of the data of surface vertical displacements and gravity changes have been derived starting out with generalized Brims, Stokes and Vening. Meinesz formulae. The effects of surface vertical displacements and gravity changes upon the geoidal height variation have been also discussed. Based on these, the results represented the effect of the geoidal height variation due to surface loading source and several dilatancy-diffusion sources filled by different material medium as well as dislocation source upon apparent vertical displacements have been presented quantitatively. Characteristices of the geoidal height variation due to local geophysical event have been analysised. Finally, computed results of the geoidal height variation and its effect on the apparent vertical displacement determined by the data observed by repeated levelling and gravity in the southern of Liaoning provice have been presented as examples.
