A FITTING SOLUTION FOR WAVE EQUATION MODELLING AND MIGRATION

This paper presents a new numerical fitting solution (NFS) for wave equation modelling and migration, which is more accurate than the conventional difference solution (CDS).The main difference between NFS and CDS lies in the methods of the discretization of the wave equation. The paper points out the disadvantages and problems of the difference discrete method by analyzing its implementation procedure and introduces a new fitting discrete method. Compared with the difference method, NFS takes the overall considerations to the wave equation and its numerical operators, with the fixed sample interval and step length, are the optimal ones, therefore, NFS is able to adapt itself to the variations of such parameters as the sample interval, the step length and the velocity, etc. and offers a more accurate solution than CDS does.The paper also gives an NFS migration design example, analyzes its result and provides a set of the NFS migration figures.
