KEMOTE SENSING OF DMSP SSM/IOVER THE SOUTH CHINA SEA AND RETRIEVAL OF SEA SURFACE WIND

The satellite-borne microwave SSM / I data over the South China Sea is studied.A new retrieval algorithm for surface wind speed is developed, which is physical feasible and is easily re-calibrated by available buoy measurements. The retrieval results are well matched with the buoy data and compared with the conventional empirical algorithm. This method is applied to retrieval of temporal and spatial variations of surface wind speed over the South China Sea.
