OCEANIC HEAT FLOW AND MANTLE UPFLOW

The mantle under mid-ocean ridges is the rising edge of mantleconvection cell. A lot of heat is brought by the mantle upflow. According to theone-dimension heat transport equation, the temperature distribution on rising edges isdeduced, which is used as the vertical boundary condition of oceanic lithosphere plate.With this boundary condition, we got the solution of two-dimensional heat transportequation of oceanic lithosphere plate. Formulae of heat flow and ocean depth couldbe deduced from the temperature solution. Joint fitting the theoretical andobservational mean value of heat flow and bathymetry yields a model of oceaniclithosphere. Its parameters are as follows: lithospheric thickness L=97km, basetemperature T=1478℃, upflow velocity u=3.9mm / a, thermal expanse coefficient a =3.65 ×10-5 / ℃, upflow half width D=1240km. The relationship between parametersand observed value are also discussed with these solutions.
