Analysis of the characteristic time scale during ENSO

We define the indexes of atmosphere wind stress vorticity and the sea temperature by means of the data from National Centers for Environmental Prediction(NCEP)and Joint Environmental Data Analysis Center(JEDAC)to analyze both the temperature anomaly on the maximum anomaly curve at the tropical Pacific and the wind stress vorticity at 850 hPa. The result shows that the atmosphere response to the ocean is mainly the Gill-type mode and simultaneously, the ocean is affected by Ekman pumping from the wind stress vorticity of the low level atmosphere. The statistic analysis also explains their action during the ENSO cycle as well as the period of the El Nio event, which supports the theory of natural oscillator with the use of initial data to some extent.
