Study on the characteristics of electromagnetic scattering from the dust plasma in the atmosphere

Based on the Mie-Debye scattering model for the dust plasma, the electromagnetic scattering characteristics of the charged dust grain in an equilibrium state are studied. The vector radiative transfer theory is used to calculate the electromagnetic scattered field from the layers of the dust plasma in the upper atmosphere. The reflection function of the electromagnetic wave is presented for the layers of the dust plasma at normal incidence, the dependence of the density of the dust grain and the distribution of the particle size on the electromagnetic wave propagation is analyzed. Numerical results indicate that the electromagnetic scattering is heavily affected by the size of the particles, given that particle radius follows lognormal distribution, and the primary scattered field of the dust plasma is Debye scattered field if the incident wavelength is greater than the Debye radius, while the main contribution to the total scattering is Mie scattering if the incident wavelength is less than the Debye radius. The attenuation of the electromagnetic wave from the layers of the dust plasma increases with the increase of density and size of the dust grain.
