A study of the effective elastic thickness of the oceanic lithosphere

SU Da-Quan South China Sea Institute of Oceanology,Chinese Academy of Sciences,Guangzhou 510301,China
Based on the previous studies on the effective elastic thickness of the continental lithosphere, the model of oceanic lithosphere was set up for study of the effective elastic thickness of the lithosphere, and the theoretic formula of isostatic response function(admittance) Z(k,Te) for the oceanic lithosphere was derived. It differs from that of the continental lithosphere. The characters of isostatic response function Z(k,Te) in ocean were explained. The isostatic response function(admittance) Z(k,Te) derived from field data in Nansha was also calculated and the estimation of the effective elastic thickness of the oceanic lithosphere in Nansha sea area is 10 km,and in the Central Basin of South China Sea is 6~7 km.
