MOMENT TENSOR INVERSION METHOD FOR DETERMINING THE EARTHQUAKE PROCESS BY THE USE OF P-WAVE FORM DATA

A moment tensor inversion method is presented in this paper. Moment tensor is obtained by fitting the long-period P waveforms observed at the stations ranging 3° ̄90°without the linear constriant that the trace of the moment tensor is supposed to be equal to zero.Thus,the decomposition of the moment tensor yields an isotropic component, a double couple component and a compensated linear vector dipole(CLVD).Moment tensor inversion results of five earthquakes(MS6)of Wuqia, Taiwan, Lanchang, Batang and Jingtai illustrate that the volume variation occurred in some of these earthquake processes can not be ignored.
