EIFFERENCE BETWEEN TWO ISOSTATIC VRAVITY ANOMALY MAPS OF CHINA

Comparison of the 1°×1° Isostatic Gravity Anomaly Map of China in the Lithosphere Dynamics Atlas of China, International Lithosphere Committee PublicationNo. 125,with the Isostatic Gravity Anomaly Map of China in the Atlas of Geophysics of China, International Lithosphere Committee Publication No. 201 , shows that there are quite substantial differences between the two maps in most mountainous areas such asthe Gangdisssi Mountains, Kunlun Mountains, Aerjin Mountains, Qilian Mountains, Bayankala Mountains and Qinling Mountains in West China. The isostatic gravityanomalies in these areas are positive on the former map but negative on the latter one .The differences will lead to entirely different inference of the isostatic compensationfor the same area. The factors producing these differences should be investigated.
