An Introduction to a Limited Area Operational Meso α Scale Numerical Forecasting System and Its Experiment

In this paper a limited area operational numerical forecasting system is developed and the technical scheme of its every module is introduced. Statistical analyses of the numerical results and experimental studies on three synoptic cases in January to October 1994 are also presented. It is indicated from the operational run that the system is stable and reliable. It has powerful capabilities for predicting weather prognostics, precipitation, and especially heavy rain. It can therefore produce a good service in aviation meteorology. In addition, this operational system can work well with the computers of most meteorological stations, and therefore it is of great value for popularization.
