Expressions of P16~(MTS1) and P27~(KIP1) in cholangiocarcinoma

Objective To study the P16 MTS1 and P27 KIP1 expressions in human cholangiocarcinoma tissues and their relationship with clinical pathology. Methods The expressions of P16 MTS1 and P27 KIP1 were examined in 48 samples of cholangiocarcinoma tissues with pathological confirmation and 8 specimens of bile duct with chronic inflammation were determined with immunohistochemical method. Results The expression rates of P16 MTS1 and P27 KIP1 were 47.9% and 35.4% respectively in cancerous tissues, but 100% and 87.5% in normal bile duct tissues with chronic inflammation. The expressions of P16 MTS1 and P27 KIP1 had a significantly correlation with differentiation, lymph node or distant metastases, and clinical stage of cholangiocardinoma. Conclusion Our results suggest that aberrant expressions of P16 MTS1 and P27 KIP1 may be associated with the incidence and development of cholangiocarcinoma and can be regarded as prognostic markers.
