Adenosine inhibits hyperpolarization-activated current in the pyramid neurons of prefrontal cortex

Objective To investigate the effect of adenosine on hyperpolarization-activated current(IH)in the mouse pyramid neurons of prefrontal cortex(PFC).Methods The pyramid neurons of Kunming mice were selected from PFC slices by infrared visual patch clamp technique.The effect of adenosine on IH in these cells was studied using the whole cell configuration.Results IH currents evoked by hyperpolarization were observed on 41(95.35%)of the 43 recorded neurons.Adenosine reduced the amplitude of IH in a concentration-dependent manner(10-100 μmol/L),and caused a negative shift in the voltage dependence of IH activation.Conclusion The IH in PFC pyramid neurons can be inhibited by adenosine.
